Previously, this feature was available to music partners. This update aims to provide users with more control over their online presence and combat the spread of potentially misleading or harmful content, including manipulated videos or audio files that simulate users’ faces or voices.
“To request removal of edited or synthetic content that imitates your face or voice, you can use our privacy request process,” the company said.
As part of the privacy request process, YouTube encourages users to report videos or comments that violate their privacy or sense of security. If users notice anything online without their knowledge, they can also file a privacy complaint.
What Factors YouTube Considers to Remove AI-Generated Content
YouTube considers a number of factors before removing content. However, it was clarified that not all content would be removed from YouTube.
“We will consider various factors when evaluating these requests,” YouTube said. This includes “whether the content is altered or synthetic and could be mistaken for real, whether the person making the request is identifiable, or whether the content is parodic or satirical when involving well-known figures.”
If a content creator believes that their channel or that of another creator is being impersonated, they can report the channel.
“For creators, if you receive a notification about a privacy complaint, please keep in mind that privacy violations are separate from Community Guidelines strikes and receiving a privacy complaint will not automatically result in a strike,” YouTube said.
YouTube attacks AI clones of musicians
Last year, YouTube introduced the ability for music partners to request removal of AI-generated music content that imitates an artist’s singing or voice.
“These removal requests will be available to labels or distributors that represent artists participating in YouTube’s first AI music experiments,” YouTube said.
