YouTube has launched a new element within its Creator Studio, where creators will have to disclose when they upload AI-generated content.
YouTuber creators will now have to check a box when the content of their upload “is modified or synthetic and appears real”, to avoid misinformation.
When the box is checked, a marker will appear on the video clip, emphasizing to viewers that the footage is not real.

In a statement, YouTube said: “The new label aims to increase transparency with viewers and build trust between creators and their audiences. Some examples of content that must be disclosed include using an image of a realistic person, altering images of real events or locations, and generating realistic scenes.
However, the social media giant added that not all uses of AI will require disclosure.
It specifies: “We do not require creators to disclose content that is clearly unrealistic, animated, includes special effects or has used generative AI to assist in production. »
The news comes as the platform announced its approach in favor of responsible AI innovation in November last year, which included disclosure requirements and labels on all AI products and features, as well as an updated privacy request process.
“Creators are the heart of YouTube and they will continue to play an incredibly important role in helping their audiences understand, adopt and adapt to the world of generative AI,” the statement continued.
“This will be an ever-evolving process, and at YouTube we will continue to improve as we learn. We hope this increased transparency will help us all better appreciate how AI continues to empower human creativity.
