EXCLUSIVE: A new AI-powered platform has launched and, according to its founders, will provide the industry with a new way to submit and review scripts.
“Wscript was designed to disrupt the way the industry reviews content submissions, develops and accesses new stories,” said founder Ellie Jamen, adding that it will open doors for female and underrepresented writers. The subscription-based platform is designed to allow production companies, talent agencies, studios and sales agents to review project submissions and source the work of new writers.
The platform allows professionals to generate AI coverage of scripts and books in minutes. Writers, screenwriters and filmmakers can pay to have their work published on the platform and Jamen said 2,000 female and non-binary writers have already been invited to join.
The startup received pre-seed funding from Techstars Atlanta Powered by JP Morgan. It had previously been selected into the Comcast NBCUniversal LIFT Labs accelerator, focused on generative AI. A first version of the platform was tested on the road by Universal images.
“Wscripted+ is a tool that will help any producer, agent, professional, even a sales agent, go through their submission pile faster and discover scripts and books from outside their network in one place – that’s how we let’s actually allow more work to be discovered, especially from women and underrepresented writers,” Jamen said.
For writers, the idea is that their work is submitted in a way that agents, producers and potential backers are familiar with. “We learned that the industry doesn’t have time to discover new projects, new stories, and that creates this bias that keeps women and underrepresented writers from getting in, because they’re always at the bottom of the list,” Jamen said.
A monthly subscription ranges from $10 for an individual writer and starts at $50 for producers. It scales based on the size and usage of the business.
The Wscripted team collaborated with the Cannes Film Market this year to introduce an AI-based diversity analysis feature, which was tested by a group of international producers and is available on Wscripted+. Jamen said upcoming features include “tailored creative curation” and “ethical narrative analysis.”
Wscripted is known for its “List of Cannes screenplays», a campaign promoting screenplays by women and non-binary writers during the Cannes Film Festival, which counts the streaming platform MUBI among its partners and which is organized by a jury led by women. The last time the jury understood Vanessa Kirby.
