Apple will integrate OpenAI’s generative AI technology into some of its own software. The agreement, reported by Information, has not been officially announced and details are scarce. This would seem to signal something of a capitulation on Apple’s part in the AI arms race, despite the fact that the consumer tech giant has been working on pretty impressive AI technology of its own.
OpenAI has created a new “Safety and Security Committee” after several recent high-profile departures directed At collapse from his previous superalignment team. But the new Committee is not exactly independent; it is led by CEO Sam Altman, and although it reports security issues to the OpenAI board, the committee itself is made up of three board members.
xAI closed a $6 billion funding round that values the company at $24 billion. Elon Musk tries to position his AI company as a real business rival to OpenAI and sought financial support from loyal friends, including Kingdom Holding of Saudi Arabia, Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital, among others.
Another Saudi fund, Prosperity7 Ventures, participated in a funding round for generative AI company Zhipu AI.this is the first time that a foreign company has made a public statement investment in a large Chinese AI startup. Zhipu was founded in 2019 and aims to become China’s own national OpenAI.
China raised its largest funding round yet to support domestic technology. The “Great Fund” amassed approximately 47 billion dollars as part of a strategic government effort to establish self-sufficiency in technological development. Officially called “National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Fund Phase III”, it is expected to invest this money in chip companies. Meanwhile, local companies like Semiconductor Manufacturing International Corporation and ChangXin Memory Technologies are reportedly working to ensure that their supply chains are rooted in China.
CoreWeave plans to go publicanticipating a Initial Public Offering in the first half of next year. The New Jersey-based company offers AI computing services and is looking to significantly increase its number of data centers. He recently raised $7.5 billion in debt financing to help fuel these efforts.
Klick Labs has developed an audio-focused deepfake detection tool. The Toronto-based company says its system searches signs of life such as breathing patterns and micropauses during speech, which synthetic voices tend to lack.
NIST released a report on its first evaluation of age estimation algorithms in a decadefinding the six solutions tested watch “opportunities for improvement,” in the words of a NIST scientist. NIST says it will continue to test age estimation and verification (AEV) algorithms every four to six weeks, anticipating rapid advances in AI.
