However, this progress implies a significant degree of responsibility: ensuring that AI is developed and used ethically, prioritizing essential principles such as fairness, transparency, confidentiality and security, in other words guaranteeing a Responsible AI.
To ensure that these principles are respected and that they guide the responsible use of AI, it is essential to secure a common framework that serves as a reference for different organizations. A framework that establishes clear and measurable standards to assess the maturity of the implementation of codes of conduct for responsible AI and promote their consistent adoption across the sector.
Ethical principles for responsible AI implementation
Committed to this vision, Telefónica has been a key contributor to the development of the Responsible AI Framework and Roadmap, a GSMA Initiative which seeks to guide companies in the sector towards the adoption of AI ethical principles. This tool was built with insights from McKinsey in partnership with other telecommunications industry leaders including Axiata, Deutsche Telekom, Orange and Telstra.
This framework includes the elements necessary for implementing responsible AI vision-based, operational model and technical controls, third-party collaboration, AI value chain management and change management and training. Thanks to this framework, both organizations that are just starting out in their use of responsible AI as well as those that already have certain elements in place will be able to have a point of reference and build a clear plan with specific actions.
Considering the above, this framework consists of three basic tools: Step by step guide: This tool provides a practical approach to help businesses navigate key phases of implementing responsible AI, from identifying risks to applying specific measures. It provides a clear and detailed roadmap that guides organizations through each stage of evolving their model for responsible use of artificial intelligence.
- Best practices tool: This tool provides access to a set of best practices drawn from leading responsible AI companies that have successfully integrated ethical principles into their operations, including best practices we have developed at Telefónica.
- RAI Roadmap Methodology: This methodology provides a flexible and scalable framework to allow companies to assess the maturity of their responsible AI implementation. It allows organizations to create a responsible and actionable AI implementation plan, measure its progress over time, and adjust their approach to the regulatory and operational needs of the industry.
