Big Tech’s use of generative AI under EU Scanner
Expressing concern over the potential misuse of generative AI (GenAI) and deepfakes in the upcoming elections, the European Commission has requested information from several tech giants under the Digital Services Act ( DSA). Microsoft Bing, Facebook, Google Search, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok, YouTube and Elon Musk’s X are among those asked by the EU to provide details. The committee is seeking clarification on measures taken to address risks associated with generative AI, including the spread of false information and the viral spread of deepfakes, known as “hallucinations.” These platforms are required to provide requested information to the Commission by April 3, focusing on safeguarding the integrity of elections.
Apple Vision Pro could be rolled out globally
According to a report from MacRumors, Apple plans to incorporate 12 new languages into the Vision Pro’s virtual keyboard. Currently, the keyboard exclusively supports English (US) and Emoji, which limits its use to the US. To expand Vision Pro’s accessibility to other regions, Apple aims to include additional languages.
Rolling out full Spotify music video functionality
Music streaming giant Spotify is challenging Google-owned YouTube by introducing support for full-screen music videos, but the feature is currently in beta testing and exclusive to Spotify Premium subscribers. The new feature is accessible through the Now Playing screen for Spotify Premium users only. The Swedish music streaming giant announced Wednesday evening that the music videos would be available to premium users in the United Kingdom, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Poland, Sweden, Brazil, Colombia, the Philippines, Indonesia and Kenya as part of the beta phase. the company intends to expand its user base globally.
WhatsApp users will soon be able to pin multiple messages
In a recent update, WhatsApp introduced the ability to pin messages in chats, allowing users to prioritize important information. Initially limited to a single message, reports suggest that WhatsApp is now testing the ability to pin up to three messages simultaneously, providing improved control over conversations. According to information from Wabetainfo, this feature is currently being tested in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android version 2.24.6.15.
