THE New York Times for follow-up Microsoft and OpenAI for alleged copyright infringement, sparking a legal battle over generative AI technologies with far-reaching implications for the future of the information publishing sector.
In a complaint filed Wednesday, the Times said tech companies were exploiting its content without permission to create their artificial intelligence products, including OpenAI’s human intelligence. chatbot ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot. The tools were trained on millions of pieces of Times content, according to the suit, and rely on that material to provide responses to user prompts.
