The data industry is exploding and generative artificial intelligence boosts its growth and potential.
That’s the general sentiment expressed by industry analysts John Furrier, Savannah Peterson and Shelly Kramer as they previewed theCUBE’s coverage of the Qlik Connect event today in Orlando.
“Unsurprising data is a challenge for everyone,” said Shelley Kramer (pictured, center), managing director and principal analyst at theCUBE Research. “Everyone is trying to get a hold of it, to figure out how to get the most out of it. Whenever there is data, there is opportunity.
Kramer spoke with a fellow theCUBE analyst Savannah Peterson (left) and John Furrier (right), co-founder and executive analyst at theCUBE Research, at Qlik Connect, in an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s live streaming studio. They discussed what the future holds for data management using generative AI and how companies, such as QlikTech International AB, are driving innovation in this area. (*Disclosure below.)
A glimpse of the future in the data industry
THE Qlik Answers The demo that kicked off the event provided a glimpse into the future of AI-powered data analytics. According to Furrier, companies with strong data management practices, including data governance and processing, are best positioned to benefit from this new generation of generative AI tools.
“We’re finally in a time where we’re actually seeing the benefits of user experience, the human side of data management,” he said. “Empowering businesses will empower more applications. We’re kind of witnessing the awakening of all those generations that came before with data.
Qlik has long worked to make data a “fundamental building block” for its customers’ businesses, according to Kramer. The company’s established data governance practices allow it to take advantage of the recent emergence of generative AI, unlike companies that have not prioritized data beforehand.
“What we’re seeing today is the need to build a culture around data,” Kramer said. “I think seeing how Qlik has embraced this, seeing the work that they’ve been doing in the trenches for a long time come to fruition, it’s really exciting.”
The next wave of technological disruption
With generative AI merging with data to generate powerful new capabilities, Qlik Connect showed why companies that invest in data preparation are poised to capitalize on the next wave of technology disruption and productivity gains.
“I think what I want to ask is what is their strategy,” Furrier said. “If you just connect the dots, the productivity revolution will come from data. What they do and what they encourage businesses to do will help businesses build a better future and a better world.
One of the highlight presentations of the event was Qlik’s demonstration of the benefits of managing unstructured data alongside structured data. Adding unstructured data opens up new possibilities with multimodal generative AI, which opens the door to an “explosion of new applications and use cases” that leverage both structured and unstructured data in ways new and powerful, emphasized Furrier.
“Databases have been around for years, generations of data management solutions, but the advent of structured and unstructured data processing is really the compelling thing that jumps out at me,” he said. “When you add unstructured data, the adoption of multimodal generative AI really comes into play.”
