Technology news of the week in India: The US government filed an antitrust lawsuit against Apple, accusing the company of anti-competitive practices, and Microsoft officially unveiled its set of AI-powered Surface laptops for businesses and businesses.

Apple against the US government
The Justice Department along with 16 other state and district attorneys general across the United States took Apple to court in an antitrust lawsuit, where, Apple is accused of “monopolizing or attempting to monopolize smartphone markets” and would be in violation of Section 2 of the Sherman Act. The lawsuit comes just weeks after Apple opened up the iPhone ecosystem in Europe, allowing users to download, use third-party payment gateways and set a third-party web browser as their default browser. If proven guilty, Apple may have to open its ecosystem by making its devices cross-platform/service compatible.

Microsoft Surface AI Laptops
Microsoft’s first set of AI laptops, powered by Intel Core Ultra processors, are available here, featuring a dedicated physical button to access Copilot powered by generative AI. The Surface 10 Pro and Surface Laptop 6 deliver the best of Microsoft’s AI features, powered by the Core Ultra chip’s NPU. Currently, these laptops are available exclusively to business customers and are called Surface Laptop 6 for Business and Surface Pro 10 for Business. Microsoft is expected to host a new AI event on May 20, where the company is expected to announce new AI features for Windows 11 PCs, and the company may also show off the consumer versions of the Surface Laptop 6 and the Surface Pro 10.

Call of Duty Warzone Mobile is now available for Android and iOS smartphones
Activision’s most anticipated smartphone video game, Call of Duty: Warzone, is now available for free for eligible Android and iOS devices. It is currently one of the most graphics-intensive Battle Royale style video games. A day after the launch, the company released updates to improve the overall gaming experience. With this title, Activision offers console quality graphics as well as new maps such as Verdansk and Rebirth Island.

Android 15 2 Developer Preview
Google has released the second developer preview of Android 15 and also revealed the official Android 15 logo. Available for select Pixel smartphones, the first version of Android 15 hints at significant improvements, including better display support coverage on foldable smartphones, satellite connectivity integration, improved NFC functionality, and much more. Google will officially introduce Android 15 at the upcoming I/O 2024 developer conference, and the company is expected to release the stable version of it in the second half of 2024.
