More than 3,000 game developers participated in the survey, which focused on their work and the industry as a whole. When it comes to platform interest, 62% (nearly two-thirds) identified PC as the one they’re most excited about. Next comes the PlayStation 5 (41%), which tops all consoles, then the Switch 2 (32%), the Xbox Series X|S (29%) and the current Switch (25%), completing the top five of the platforms.
Obviously the total is well over 100%, but that’s because the developers were asked to choose everything that applied. When it comes to the platforms they’re currently developing for (interest aside), PC again tops the billing with 62%, followed by PS5 (35%), Xbox Series X|S ( 34%), Android (24%) and iOS (23%). Beyond the top five, the current Switch console comes in sixth position with 18%.
The survey also touched on the topic of generative AI. About half (49%) of game developers surveyed said their company or department has deployed AI tools such as ChatGPT, DALL-E, GitHub Copilot, and Adobe Generative Fill that they or their colleagues use actively.
The use of AI tools is not without concerns, however. The survey finds that four in five developers are concerned about the ethical use of AI (based on a sample of over 3,000 people).
“Although developers seem uncertain about the impact of generative AI on the industry, they are quite certain about its ethical impact. A large majority (84%) of developers indicated they were somewhat or very concerned about the ethics of using generative AI, while 12% said they had no concerns. indicates the investigation.
“In the rush to develop new technologies, we are ignoring many of the warning signs and potential pitfalls of this exciting and potentially dangerous new frontier. Many developers behind AI seem blinded by the promise that Asimov’s AIs “, wrote an anonymous developer.
