The innovative refrigerator revolutionizes the way of cooling with the Peltier module, which contributes to efficient use of energy thanks to the AI algorithm, longer preservation of food and more internal space
Samsung Electronics today announced that it will unveil the new refrigerators with AI Hybrid Cooling technology at CES® 2025, which will be ready to expand to global markets this year. These new refrigerators introduce AI Hybrid Cooling technology, which combines artificial intelligence with innovative cooling methods to meet the diverse needs of modern households.
“Since refrigerators operate 24/7, we have focused on developing a cooling system that significantly improves energy efficiency for users.“, said Jeong Seung Moon, executive vice president and R&D team head for the digital devices sector at Samsung Electronics. “With the world unveiling of AI Hybrid Cooling technology, we demonstrate our commitment to technological innovation in home appliances. We will continue to introduce home appliances incorporating innovative technologies to make consumers’ daily lives more convenient.“
Optimize energy consumption with adaptive hybrid cooling
AI Hybrid Cooling technology combines a highly efficient compressor with a Peltier module,1 which is a semiconductor device that achieves cooling by exploiting the temperature change resulting from the flow of electric current. The introduction of the Peltier module allows the refrigerator to operate like a hybrid car, using two power sources together only when necessary to efficiently cool the interior of the refrigerator.
For example, when a significant cooling demand is detected or anticipated – such as when many items are added at once after shopping, or when storing hot food or if it is the hot summer season – the refrigerator activates the Peltier module next to the compressor. In normal use, however, it relies solely on the compressor to ensure optimal efficiency. During the process, the AI algorithm detects the current status of the refrigerator and predicts temperature changes inside the refrigerator to properly adjust the cooling mode.
The high-efficiency AI inverter compressor2 also contributes to the efficient use of energy, thanks to an improved design that increases the radius of its rotating components. With an inertia 4.1 times greater than that of Samsung’s classic F3 compressor,3 it runs longer while consuming less energy.4 Leveraging an AI algorithm, the compressor dynamically optimizes its speed.5
Through continuous efforts, Samsung plans to introduce a model that can be recognized as the most efficient6 of ENERGY STAR on the market in 2025.
Extend freshness with precise temperature control
AI Hybrid Cooling technology improves the freshness of perishable foods with Hybrid Precise Cooling, which reduces internal temperature fluctuations within the refrigerator when activated, even during the appliance’s automatic defrost cycles. Since it harnesses residual heat from its Peltier module during the defrosting process, it reduces the risk of excessive temperature fluctuations that could compromise food quality. This means food ingredients can be kept fresher and longer. Tests show that when Hybrid Precise Cooling is activated,7 fresh foods like pork and salmon can last up to 1.4 times and 1.2 times respectively,8 compared to when it is turned off.
Secure more storage and everyday convenience
Refrigerators with AI Hybrid Cooling technology redefine space efficiency with an impressive 900 liter capacity,9 offering improved usability while maintaining the same external dimensions. By replacing traditional heating elements with a Peltier module, it makes better use of interior space, resulting in a 25 liter increase in internal capacity. This allows for 60mm deeper shelves10 and a 13.8%11 larger loading area, accommodating up to 240 beverage cans12 — 24 more than conventional models.
A step forward for domestic refrigeration
Refrigerators with AI Hybrid Cooling technology demonstrate Samsung’s commitment to combining smart technology, energy efficiency and user-centered design. Debuting at CES 2025, this innovative device is poised to redefine modern home life and usher in a new era of AI-enabled home solutions.
1 The Peltier module operates under one of the following conditions:
– When the temperature in the refrigerator exceeds the normal range.
– When AI analyzes the user’s refrigerator usage habits, predicts the temperature after a certain period of time, and detects situations such as large-scale storage or cleaning.
2 The AI inverter compressor requires a Wi-Fi connection and a Samsung account as well as AI Energy mode operation via the SmartThings app available on Android and iOS devices.
