Cybersecurity startup Reach Security Inc. announced today that it has raised $20 million in new funding to develop more AI-related security features.
The company was co-founded in 2021 by Garrett Hamilton and Colt Blackmore, cybersecurity veterans who have worked building detection and prevention products at companies including Palo Alto Networks Inc., Proofpoint Inc. and Cylance Inc. They aim to transform the way companies use their security tools, with a focus on optimizing what teams already have rather than adding complexity with new tools.
The company says sentiment has changed in the cybersecurity market, with executives tired of buying tools without knowing whether they help them or how to use them more effectively. At the same time, defenders are often overstretched to master the growing number of abilities.
With outdated configurations and policies, attackers can easily exploit security vulnerabilities that new tools were intended to fix. Reach says the shift in perspective has given Reach significant momentum, with a product that capitalizes on existing cybersecurity investments.
Reach offers a purpose-built AI platform to reprogram an organization’s security infrastructure based on who they are and how they are attacked. Unlike solutions limited to cloud security, the platform works across the entire security domain, interrogating every tool and collecting data on who is being targeted and how these attacks work.
According to the company, setting up the platform takes seconds and minutes to obtain insights and actions, with no new sensors, infrastructure, or attack simulation required. The result is that security leaders benefit from a 360-degree view of how their products protect them, a prioritized list of ways to improve, and automation that empowers their defenders to take action.
Reach Security’s AI is also supposed not to hallucinate or make mistakes because it was designed with accountability and reliability in mind.
Ballistic Ventures Alpha LLC led the Series A round, along with Artisanal Ventures LLC, Webb Investment Network Management LLC and Ridge Ventures LLC, as well as Mark McLaughlin, former CEO of Palo Alto Networks, and Denise Persson, chief marketing officer at Snowflake Inc. , also participate.
“Enterprises want to benefit from the network effect, optimization and operational efficiency of security platforms, but refuse to accept anything other than best-in-class capabilities,” McLaughlin said in a statement . “Garrett and the Reach team understand this and offer customers a path to platforms while achieving best-in-class by meeting them where they are and focusing on their operational efficiency throughout their journey.” »
