Looking at the Ethical construction of AIwhat is the structure and how does it work?
This is a new product for us at BCS. This is an online certification program that we developed that allows people to study at their own pace and at their own pace. It includes a 12-hour learning program including an online course with interactive elements and video information. Practical examples, knowledge checks and tests are included throughout the course. It even incorporates a bit of AI, where learners receive automated feedback when they provide answers and solutions to situations involving AI. This is ideal for encouraging critical thinking and the application of ethical principles to real-world scenarios and also allowed us to provide a real-world example of AI as a feature of the course itself.
At the end, there is an online exam that leads to professional certification.
As I said, it is expected that it will take someone 12 hours to get from the starting point The ethical construction of AI program to finally obtain their certification.
So why ethics? Why are ethics important in the context of creating AI tools and products?
Fundamentally, ethics must be at the heart of everything we do. As IT professionals, we must act responsibly and for the public good.
Of course, BCS has a Royal Charter which urges us to focus on improving IT for society. THE Ethical construction of AI The certification program very much aligns with the main goal of BCS. It’s about encouraging and influencing people to think ethically when adopting AI and creating AI-based products.
It is no coincidence that we launch Ethical construction for AI right away. The adoption, potential and capabilities of AI are growing at an astonishing pace. BCS, through this program, strives to ensure that AI products are developed responsibly.
As an industry, we want to move forward and innovate, but we also need guardrails in place and maintaining human oversight. We must integrate ethics into our practices and approaches.
We will lose public trust if we do not understand the ethical implications of our work.
Who should consider starting the program?
It is mainly aimed at people working in development. We see a lot of software developers, testers and people working with AI.
But it’s broader than that. The program would benefit people working in a project team or collaborating with development teams. For example, business analysts and project managers would also benefit.
The objective is to transmit a good sense of ethics and how to apply them to be able to innovate responsibly.
What is the presumed level of knowledge?
We imagine people will have some basic understanding of data, some development principles, and some core skills in their role.
The program focuses on the integration and application of ethics into existing roles. It helps you understand how AI can be used and how to develop a use case. Importantly, it also looks at how to identify where the risks lie.

Having this certification program on your resume demonstrates that you are committed to doing things responsibly and ethically within your technical profession. This shows that you have a good understanding of how to approach working with AI responsibly and are capable of helping teams and businesses do things the right way. So how do I present the business case to my boss so I can pass the certification?
It’s about developing a clear use case for how you plan to use AI; we therefore need to understand what it can do, what problems it can solve and the benefits it can really bring to the company and its employees.
We developed the program for individuals and teams. From a business perspective, it’s about understanding the business context and its objectives, then having people who can identify the best opportunities for how AI can be deployed to help the business achieve these objectives.
