In a candid conversation with Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the important steps that should be taken while using artificial intelligence (AI) in the contemporary technological world, and said that the world should establish certain dos and don’ts. using this technology.
“In a vast democratic country like India, the misuse of deep fake technology. For example, they can misuse my voice. This can initially mislead people, leading to widespread chaos. It is crucial to recognize that deep fake content is generated by AI and to mention its source,” PM Modi said while addressing the issue of deep fake.
“These steps are really important, especially at the beginning. We need to establish some do’s and don’ts. Additionally, you need to first engage AI in an area of expertise. Just using it because one is “tired” or overusing it is not a good thing. “the right approach,” he added.

“Regarding the challenges that AI presents, I have observed that without proper training, there is a significant risk of misuse when such powerful technology is placed in unskilled hands. I spoke with the leading minds in AI and I suggested that we should start with clear watermarks on AI-generated content to avoid misinformation. This is not about devaluing AI creations but recognize them for what they are,” said the Prime Minister.
“Data security remains a major concern and even though India has a legal framework. For example, I started storing all academic certificates in the cloud to reduce costs and efficiently meet various needs. Previously, strict compliance requirements were required. argued for simplification, suggesting that data be uploaded to the cloud with shared identifiers, allowing us to directly access the necessary information. This approach underlines my commitment to leveraging technology not only to improve services, but also to significantly improve the comfort of life of our citizens,” he added.
Bill Gates also acknowledged the challenges AI presents and said the technology also represents a huge opportunity.
“AI is in its infancy and I think everyone is using it. The same day you’re surprised at how good it is, and you’re also surprised at how bad it is. It will do things which you think are difficult, and then it will fail to do some things which you think are easy. I started my journey here from Hyderabad, which was a great occasion as Microsoft is celebrating 25 years in the country, and it’s been such a fantastic experience. So I definitely challenged “The team there. Hey, we need to improve the accuracy. And for now, it’s like a co-pilot. It helps to suggest things. But the final decision about the drug or the letter you want to write, the final decision, we still have to “We need to revisit this, although it might make us a little more creative and a little more productive. You know, it seems like “AI is a huge opportunity, but it comes with some challenges,” Gates said.
AI is one of the government’s priority areas. The Cabinet had recently approved the IndiaAI overall mission at the national level with a budgetary outlay of Rs. 10,371.92 crore.
The IndiaAI Mission will establish a comprehensive ecosystem catalyzing AI innovation through strategic programs and partnerships across the public and private sectors.
