Oracle on Wednesday launched more than 50 role-based AI agents in the Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications suite.
Oracle Fusion Cloud Applications is a suite of applications that businesses can use to manage different functions.
New AI agents help employees and managers get their jobs done by automating business processOracle executives said at the tech giant’s conference CloudWorld Conference 2024 in Las Vegas.
Oracle Fusion Cloud Human Capital Management AI agents can assist with team planning, hiring planning, and fulfillment of requests to fill existing positions and create new positions, and help employees better understand benefits.
Oracle Fusion Cloud Supply Chain agents with Manufacturing AI provide contextualized information and recommendations for fulfilling order requests. The agents also make recommendations for maintenance and repairs for various assets, the vendor said.
AI Agents in Oracle Fusion Cloud Customer Experience perform planning and research tasks, automate routing contract workflows and approvals, and assist with communications with sales representatives.
Oracle has not said when the AI agents will be available.
The next step for GenAI
THE AI agent idea This is another iteration of generative AI that expands and matures from the popular initial use case of chatbots to enable AI technology to perform tasks without human intervention.
“These AI agents are designed to automate routine tasks and provide personalized insights and recommendations,” said Sid Nag, an analyst at Gartner Research.
AI agents also support the idea that the generative AI market is moving from ideation to implementation.
“This is the use case we’ve really been waiting for,” said Mark Beccue, an analyst at TechTarget’s Enterprise Strategy Group. “These are very pragmatic, practical ideas. Something that helps me move things forward.”
Oracle AI Agents for its Fusion Cloud Applications suite is a good vision and makes sense for an enterprise software application vendor, Beccue added.
Oracle isn’t the only vendor integrating AI agents into its business applications.
ServiceNow AI Agents
On September 10, SaaS Vendor ServiceNow has unveiled plans to integrate agent workflows into the ServiceNow platform. The vendor said its first AI Agent applications will be Customer Service Management AI Agents and IT Service Management AI Agents.
ServiceNow AI agents will identify and resolve issues independently while being guided by human surveillance.
ServiceNow AI agents will be available in November 2024 in a limited version, according to the vendor.
ServiceNow also launched the Now Assist Skills Kit to enable businesses to create custom generative AI skills for specific business needs.
Single-task or multi-task agents
When it comes to AI agents and agent workflows for performing tasks, the question is whether agents can perform a single task or multiple tasks at once, Beccue said. If an agent can perform multiple tasks at once, can it also navigate multiple applications so users don’t have to jump in and out of applications?

Being able to multitask and move across multiple applications could lead to something like a new software user interface in which the user communicates with an AI agent and allows it to perform tasks across multiple applications, Beccue continued.
“It’s a vision of what I think agents are going to become,” he said.
It is not yet clear how AI agents will handle industry-specific regulations and comply with the various rules and regulations of heavily regulated industries such as finance.
Other AI Features
Oracle has also introduced AI capabilities into other applications.
Oracle Cloud ERP’s new AI capabilities address organizations’ financial processes with new predictive cash flow forecasting capabilities, narrative reporting capabilities, and automated transaction recordings in Oracle Fusion Cloud Sustainability.
New AI capabilities in Oracle Cloud CX include new assisted authoring to help sales teams engage with buyers with AI-generated responses, as well as new AI capabilities in Oracle CX Unity that detect signals based on topic role, title, and engagement.
