PETALING JAYA: NetApp Malaysia Sdn Bhd has embarked on new developments to accelerate artificial intelligence (AI) innovation in Malaysia, furthering the country’s goal of becoming the AI hub of South Asia -East.
The company said that by providing critical infrastructure for Generative AI (GenAI), NetApp enables Malaysian organizations to harness transformative technologies and overcome data challenges.
Alwyn David, Country Manager, said NetApp’s latest innovations position the company to help Malaysian businesses unlock the full value of their data through AI and achieve their strategic goals.
“GenAI powers practical business applications such as content generation, summarizing detailed information and interactive question and answer sessions,” he said.
David cited a Gartner study projecting that AI software spending will reach $297.9 billion by 2027, with GenAI accounting for more than a third of that investment.
At the recent NetApp Insight 2024 conference, CEO George Kurian emphasized that AI challenges are fundamentally data challenges. He explained how an intelligent data infrastructure can secure, govern and continuously update relevant data to support a unified GenAI stack.
NetApp is undergoing Nvidia certification for its Ontap storage system with Nvidia DGX SuperPOD AI infrastructure, which will enable organizations to effectively manage large-scale AI projects, particularly those involving large language models.
The company created a global metadata namespace to enable secure data exploration and management in hybrid multicloud environments, making feature extraction and classification easier for AI applications.
Additionally, NetApp Ontap offers an integrated AI data pipeline that automates unstructured data preparation, enabling large-scale, low-latency semantic searches and generation-augmented inference retrieval.
NetApp enhances its cloud-native services by providing an integrated data platform for data ingestion, discovery and cataloging.
“Organizations across Malaysia are experimenting with GenAI to increase efficiency and drive innovation,” said David, adding that by providing secure, scalable and high-performance data infrastructure that integrates with leading platforms, NetApp helps customers overcome barriers to implementing GenAI.
This latest announcement follows NetApp’s recent launch of its latest ASA A-Series all-flash storage systems. The systems are designed to optimize block storage workloads and enable modernization for organizations of all sizes.
