Instead of hiring Al Michaels or other replacements for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics, NBC took the generative AI route by cloning the legendary sportscaster’s voice for upcoming events. The AI equivalent of Al Michaels would provide daily recaps and updates from the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympics, and NBC would broadcast them for the United States.
In addition to Michaels’ AI voice narrator, NBC is offering live games on its streaming platform, Peacock, for subscribers to enjoy.
NBC’s Al Michaels gets AI-generated voice for Paris 2024
NBC Universal will deliver a “Your daily Olympics recap” experience for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games. It will use the AI-cloned voice of iconic sports broadcaster Al Michaels to narrate the games. According to NBC, this will be available through Peacock, its streaming platform, which will also partner Official Olympics streaming service for the United States on NBC.

AI Michaels to Deliver Daily Olympic Recaps and Updates
NBC’s AI-generated Michaels is now up to the task of providing a personalized experience of the massive Olympics. He would summarize up to 5,000 hours of coverage at his peak. Generative cloning of AI and Deepfake: is it accepted?
Generative AI is a powerful technology because it can deliver massive results to users in different ways and experiences, but not all those using it may have good or honest intentions behind their creations. There was once a scam against Arup, where the scammers were able to steal £20 million in create deepfakes of their leaders who defrauded an employee.
However, not everyone is threatened by AI deepfakes and voice cloning, as famous Canadian technopop star Grimes once was. allowed the world to clone his voice. The musician previously approved the use of her AI voice for tracks, and she’s only asking to split royalties 50-50, similar to the deal she made with artists who collaborated with her.
The business of cloning, whether AI-generated or physical, is not yet widely accepted in the world, claiming that it is an artificial life that still faces massive criticism and opposition. However, in the case of NBC, Michaels’ voice will be a generative AI voice that will provide its audience with daily recaps and updates for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics, also known to use AI technology.
