It’s starting to feel like we have another one Windows 11 update in the second half of 2024 which could bring even more artificial intelligence (AI) features to the operating system.
Windows Latest references spotted to the update, called “Hudson Valley” and also known as Windows 11 24H2, in a supporting document – and it seems that Microsoft might not have wanted the existence of this update to be made public.
However, Windows Latest spotted references to the EnumDeviceDrivers feature, used by system administrators and developers to interact with Windows 11 drivers.
The document that refers to this function also mentions Windows 11 version 24H2. The document specifies that the 24H2 update will change the way Windows 11 retrieves information from the EnumDeviceDrivers function.
You can check out the document for yourselfbut it’s aimed at developers and other similar professionals, so it’s a bit of a dry read.
AI for Windows Users
So there you have it: Microsoft is planning to update 24H2, which we can assume it’s actively working on, and we can look forward to it sometime in the third or fourth quarter of 2024 if Microsoft doesn’t change course. This news follows recent reports referencing a new preview build currently being tested internally, which suggests it could be the biggest AI upgrade coming to Windows 11 yet.
The last major Windows 11 update we saw was Windows 11 23H2, which Microsoft rolled out in late 2023, which included a preview of the Windows-powered digital assistant Copilot AI.
As Microsoft insiders, tech experts and enthusiasts eagerly monitor any news regarding the next iteration of Windows, informally known as Windows 12, Windows Latest also speculated that we might not get it for a little while. Former head of Windows and Surface at Microsoft, Panos Panay, has left Microsoft in a surprising move, leading some to believe that whoever takes over likely won’t begin his tenure at Microsoft leading the next big version of Windows .
Microsoft has been clear and consistent with its intention to integrate AI into several Windows features and applications, such as Windows assistants Copilot and Cocreator AI for applications like Notepad and Paint. It looks like it will be the Windows 11 update that continues this process and we’ll have to keep watching when more information about Windows 11 24H2 is released, and if Microsoft is indeed putting more AI effort into Windows 11, it could mean that Windows 12 won’t be here anytime soon.
