Microsoft works alongside nonprofits, universities, governments and other technology companies as part of the Harvard Law School Library. Institutional Data Initiative (IDI) increase the amount of publicly available data and the diversity of sources, cultures, languages and topics represented in that data.
The IDI aims to unlock and refine high-quality data, starting with the Harvard Law School Library collections, so that artificial intelligence solutions better reflect and benefit communities.

Microsoft also supports HEARTan initiative led by the Open University in the United Kingdom which aims to open access to scientific knowledge worldwide. Microsoft will help provide automatic access to academic research content and develop ethical methods for using academic content to develop AI.
“For AI innovation to work for everyone, access to broad and varied data is essential, and not just for large companies like Microsoft, but especially for researchers and startups,” he said.
