Richardson stressed the crucial need for responsible AI development and transparency,
“AI and data are the new electricity, powering everything from healthcare to education, from business to everyday life.”
He also explained how the rise of AI will exacerbate existing inequalities without immediate and decisive intervention, pushing the most vulnerable communities even further behind.
By incorporating best practices from this symposium, the coalition plans to launches its responsible AI initiative during the third annual edition MidwestCon 2024 Data Hackathon Conference, September 4-6.
Richardson says the event attracts hundreds of tech and AI enthusiasts, from beginners to developers, making it “an ideal opportunity to raise awareness about responsible AI that doesn’t harm young people but heals them. AI-generated deep fakes have led to an increase in sextortion, victimizing minors and leading to tragic consequences, including teen suicides. We can lead the charge locally and nationally by bringing together community stakeholders and policymakers.”
