South Korean company LG Uplus has revealed plans to collaborate with domestic startups to advance its AI agent, “ixi”, marking the first significant initiative under its new CEO Hong Bum-shik. The company revealed that Hong’s first official engagement since taking office in November 2024 was to participate in the “Shift” demo day, a startup support program.
At the event, Hong expressed the company’s commitment to fostering innovation through collaboration, highlighting LG Uplus’s ambition to be the preferred partner for startups. He described the Shift program as a crucial step in identifying promising AI technology companies and driving technological advancements through meaningful partnerships.
The Shift program is designed to support university research teams and startups with high market potential by providing them with a platform to secure external investments and establish technological collaborations with LG Uplus. The demo day event brought together more than 100 participants, including venture capitalists, representatives from university technology funds and startup executives.
Eight startups have been selected for the program in 2024, several working on projects to integrate their technologies into the ixi AI agent. Key participants included Lemong, Omelet, Fairy and Toggle Campus in the AI agent sector, Squeezebits and Technomatrix in software operations, Trillion Labs in AI transformation models and Aim Intelligence in AX-based technologies. LG Uplus plans to provide these startups with access to ixi APIs, infrastructure support and business acceleration programs, with opportunities for equity investment and long-term collaborations also on the table.
During the demo day, the startups presented their technologies to potential investors and discussed their plans to commercialize the innovations in partnership with LG Uplus. The company has committed to covering costs incurred during the collaboration process, strengthening its support for startups.
Hong emphasized the importance of integrating cutting-edge technologies with a strong focus on customer needs to deliver exceptional experiences. He expressed optimism about the potential for synergy between LG Uplus’s capabilities and the creativity and energy of startups, with the aim of fostering new avenues of innovation.
