The Lagos State Government has advised experts in the field of artificial intelligence to focus on innovations that would improve lives rather than complicate them. The state also called for synergy between AI producers and consumers to strengthen the value chain and facilitate “harmonious interactions to address challenges, innovate.” , and adapt to changing market dynamics.
Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, made the call during a conference and exhibition organized by the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency to commemorate World Rights Day of consumers 2024.
According to a statement made available to The punchthe conference was held on Friday at the Eko Hotels and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The Commissioner for Commerce, Cooperatives, Trade and Investment, Mrs. Folashade Ambrose-Medebem, assured the participants of the state government’s commitment to creating an environment where technology thrives and consumer rights are well protected.
The Commissioner, who spoke on the theme “Fair and responsible AI for consumers”, called for innovation and consumer rights to “ensure that advances in artificial intelligence and technology in general serve to improve the lives of citizens, not to complicate them.”
The Director General of LASCOPA, Mr. Afolabi Solebo, advised participating organizations to prioritize ethical considerations to ensure that AI benefits society.
He said: “The importance of artificial intelligence cannot be overstated, as it has revolutionized the way businesses interact with their customer base. Consumers are surrounded by AI-powered technologies, from personalized recommendations to automated decision-making processes.
“In the rapidly evolving technological landscape, the integration of artificial intelligence has become an integral part of our daily lives. Today we will discuss the importance of fair and responsible AI for all consumers.
