Keysight Technologies, Inc. has joined the AI-RAN Alliance to advance the use of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and innovations in radio access networks (RAN). Established in early 2024, the alliance is a collaborative initiative bringing together technology, industry and academic institutions to integrate AI into cellular technology to improve RAN performance and mobile network capabilities.
AI is a powerful tool that has the potential to revolutionize wireless communication networks. The inherent complexity of its architectures and operations makes RAN an ideal application for AI to create more optimal, reliable, and efficient mobile networks. In response to this opportunity, the AI-RAN Alliance aims to find ways to improve mobile network efficiency, reduce energy consumption, and modernize existing infrastructure that will open up new economic opportunities, enabled by 5G and 6G. The alliance will achieve this through RAN-related AI research in the areas of improving spectrum efficiency, more efficient use of architectures, generating new AI-based revenue opportunities, and deploying AI at the network edge to deliver new services and increase operational efficiency.
Keysight recognizes the transformative power of AI and the role it will play in how future communications systems are built and tested. The company is actively involved in a variety of early-stage research projects ranging from optimizing wireless performance to advancing AI learning in wireless communications testing. Keysight is also a member of the NIST AI Security Consortium and is involved in numerous standards and research initiatives related to the emerging field of AI system validation.
Ardavan Tehrani, AI-RAN Alliance Board Director at Samsung Research, said: “The AI-RAN Alliance is excited to welcome Keysight as a new member. As the wireless industry evolves from AI model development to deployment, there is a need to rigorously test these models to ensure consistent and expected AI model performance and reliability. The domain knowledge that Keysight brings in these areas will help advance the alliance’s mission of bringing AI technology to RAN.”
Giampaolo Tardioli, Vice President of 6G and Next Generation Technologies at Keysight, said: “With our deep expertise in simulation, modeling, and measurement science, Keysight will provide valuable solutions to accelerate the deployment of AI in RAN and improve the accuracy and reliability of AI models in RAN. Joining the AI-RAN Alliance is a natural fit and further evidence of Keysight’s commitment to driving innovation in the communications and computing industries. We look forward to collaborating with the other alliance members to help realize the full potential of AI for wireless systems.”
