IIndia’s healthcare sector is likely to witness a transformative change with the adoption of digital technologies such as robotics, telehealth and artificial intelligence (AI), according to a report released on Monday.
The Deloitte report showed that digital and technological innovations, infrastructure boom as well as major government and private initiatives and partnerships are likely to boost the healthcare sector in the country. The report highlights a collaborative approach by government and the private sector to shape the future of the country’s health care.
While the government has launched notable initiatives, such as Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) and e-Sanjeevani, as building blocks to develop a digitized healthcare ecosystem, private players have started using digital technologies like robotics, telehealth and AI.
It also showed the growing adoption of 5G by private entities to provide technology-based care. This growth indicates increased access to high-speed connectivity in healthcare.
“India’s rapidly expanding digital economy, with over 75 million 5G fixed wireless access (FWA) broadband subscriptions in 2021, and expected to reach around 460 million by 2030, is driving technological care. Even though we have seen significant growth in 5G, it is crucial to sustain it, especially in rural areas,” said Joydeep Ghosh, partner and life sciences and healthcare industry leader at Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu. India.
“We are moving forward with projects like ‘Anemia Mukt Mahilayen’ and ‘Sanjeevani Pariyojana’, using digital solutions to combat anemia and provide virtual Covid-19 support,” he added.
However, the report also highlights the need to address challenges such as cybersecurity, infrastructure gaps, staffing shortages and digital disparities. (IANS)
