(Istanbul, Turkey, November 5, 2024) At UBBF 2024, Kim Jin, Vice President of Huawei’s Optical Product Line, released seven innovations for the F5.5G network. These innovations are designed to help operators create an AI-centric all-optical F5.5G target network to drive new business growth.
Kim Jin giving a speech
As AI base models and applications are increasingly used, collaborative training between computing centers as well as synergy between AI devices and the cloud for inference pose new demands in bandwidth, latency and network reliability. Faced with these new challenges and opportunities, operators are upgrading their network architectures to AI-centric architectures and moving toward IT-network synergy and AI applications. With this in mind, Huawei proposed the AI-centric F5.5G all-optical target network, which includes the 99.9999% 3D mesh backbone, 1ms hop all-optical metro network, 1Gbps/10Gbps smart access. , FTTR smart home hub and intelligent management and control. With the Target Network, Huawei aims to help operators achieve new business growth. The seven technological innovations are:
The industry-leading OTN 1.6T helps build a high-speed, low-power interconnection network of computing centers. The 1.6T OTN solution uses high-speed modulators to improve error correction coding capability and achieve a transmission distance of 640 km. In addition, Huawei’s “Ocean Current” power-saving algorithm adjusts the working status of a module in real time based on traffic to significantly reduce network power consumption.
Hybrid ASON and lossless OTN transmission ensure 99.9999% network availability and no interruption to AI training and inference. Hybrid ASON implements fast optical path switching, with optical layer rerouting time reduced to less than 50 ms. Additionally, the ASON protocol ensures that services are not affected when multiple fiber outages occur. The industry’s unique OTN seamless switching solution achieves zero packet loss during protection switching and network jitter.
E2E OXC, from core to edge, delivers ultra-low latency for metro transmission networks and deterministic low latency for AI services. For the large capacity requirements of OXC at the core layer, Huawei uses high-resolution LCOS to implement integrated C+L switching. This doubles the switching capacity of each subrack. And for the small size requirements of OXC at the edge layer, Huawei uses innovative meta-lens technology to reduce the size of the WSS module by 55%.
High-performance 50G PON accelerates AI application innovation with ubiquitous 10G coverage. During the evolution of GPON and 10G PON to 50G PON, Huawei’s 50G PON solution uses Bragg gratings for multiplexing and demultiplexing at different rates to upgrade optical modules from QSFP to SFP. This allows for high integration of 16 ports per card, twice the industry average. The solution also supports 1:1 replacement of GPON and 10G PON cards with 50G PON cards. Additionally, Huawei introduces PWB taper amplifier and waveguide technologies to significantly improve the system’s optical power budget. In this way, no modifications are necessary to existing Optical Distribution Networks (ODN) to upgrade to 10G.
FTTR+X helps create a smart home hub and provides the ultimate experience for home AI applications. Huawei iFTTR F50 offers 3Gbps Wi-Fi coverage and 10 millisecond seamless roaming, improving the AI connection experience. Huawei also provides users with intelligent applications, such as AI plus storage, home security and elderly care. This helps operators develop connection, computing, storage, sensing and control capabilities to pave the way for the development of smart home services.
Premium Broadband helps create the experience management platform for Home Broadband (HBB) users. Using the innovative HBB core model, HBBMaster, user experience is detected end-to-end from NEs, networks and applications, and user experience defects are proactively diagnosed. This also simplifies HBB O&M.
Huawei’s high-end transmission solution enables efficient operation and maintenance of optical networks. The solution implements digitalization of network resources based on digital twins, thereby reducing service planning time. In addition to this, the StellarGo algorithm provides the optimal path and supports the delivery of online services, and in doing so, supports differentiated monetization of SLAs.
Kim Jin said: “Facing the new challenges and opportunities brought by the AI era, Huawei is willing to work with all industries to continuously innovate and help operators build an F5.5G all-optical target network centered on AI. a smart world and stimulate the growth of new businesses.
