Apple and Google are in talks to integrate Gemini artificial intelligence into the iPhone, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg News, in what could be a major update on the technology side.
So what do the discussions include? GOOD, Reuters reported that the companies are negotiating about using Gemini to power some new features added to the iPhone’s software in the current year.
However, the discussions do not appear to be in a decisive phase as the branding terms and AI implementation have not yet been finalized.
Reuters reported that if the two tech giants struck a deal, Google could tap into Apple’s market of two billion users as it competes with OpenAI.
“This strategic partnership is a missing piece in Apple’s AI strategy and combines forces with Google for Gemini to drive some of the AI features Apple is bringing to market,” said analyst Daniel Ives at Wedbush. Reuters.
In January, Google partnered with Apple rival Samsung to integrate its genAI technology into the company’s Galaxy S24 series of smartphones.
The two companies – Apple and Google – have had a years-long partnership, with Google being the default search engine for the Safari browser.
