Google has been experimenting with ads in AI Previews since May and is now starting to roll them out. Additionally, Google is changing the formatting of AI previews. After testing in August, the company will now highlight cited web pages on the right side of summaries, as this change reportedly resulted in increased traffic to supporting websites compared to the previous presentation.
The ads will initially appear in AI previews in the US on mobile. For information, Microsoft also displays advertisements in its Copilot chatbot.
Google is also introducing AI-curated search pages, which will present a personalized results page with relevant information rather than just a list of links. This feature is currently available exclusively on mobile in the United States for searches related to recipes and meal ideas.
What are AI Insights?
AI Previews provide users with concise summaries of information taken from various sources across the web. By leveraging artificial intelligence, these overviews highlight key points and information related to a user’s query, making it easier to quickly understand complex topics. The feature also includes cited web pages, allowing users to access additional details directly from trusted sources. It was announced at the Google for India event that the AI in Search previews would be expanded to include Telugu, Tamil, Bengali, and Marathi. These AI previews are already available in Hindi.
Other notable features include AI-generated review summaries in Google Maps and a new AI preview with a video option for search. This experimental feature, currently available in Search Labs, allows users to record video using Google Lens in the Google app, providing AI-generated previews based on the context of the video.
