Alphabet Inc.’s Google announced an initiative to provide artificial intelligence tools and investments to strengthen online security, as emerging technology is increasingly used to protect against and perpetrate cybercrime.
Google will introduce a new open source AI-powered resource that uses file type identification to help detect malware, the company announced in a statement Friday. The tool, which is already used to protect products such as Gmail and Google Drive, will be made available for free.
The company will also release a white paper at Germany’s Munich Security Conference on Friday that details how it uses AI for cyber defense and proposes a policy agenda calling for advanced AI research and safeguards on autonomous cyber defenses.
