Google Cloud has announced a strategic collaboration with Air France-KLM to enhance the airline group’s data capabilities and leverage generative AI (gen AI) technology. This partnership aims to support Air France-KLM’s multi-cloud and data-centric strategy, enabling innovation and redefining the future of the travel industry.
Air France-KLM plans to use advanced analytics and AI to improve customer satisfaction through personalized offers, optimize operations on the ground and in the air, streamline internal processes and drive employee innovation and businesses. With more than 551 planes and 93 million passengers in 2023, the airline generates large amounts of data that will benefit from these advances.
As part of its transformation, Air France-KLM is moving from three historical data centers to a multi-cloud strategy. By using Google Cloud tools like BigQuery, the airline will improve its data analysis capabilities. This approach ensures data security while reducing latency and improving insights, enabling faster innovation and better service to its business units. Predictive maintenance times have already been reduced from hours to minutes, improving efficiency and reducing environmental impact.
The partnership also includes exploring AI-powered applications such as automated customer support documentation and streamlined aircraft maintenance. Air France-KLM will build a dedicated and secure AI generation cloud instance, powered by Google Cloud tools, offering ultra-low latency and multi-modal capabilities. The airline’s gen AI strategy will benefit from a single common data lake for innovative use cases.
In addition to technological advancements, Google Cloud will provide training to Air France-KLM teams, covering data science, engineering, security, infrastructure and AI generation. These efforts aim to democratize the use of data within the organization, fostering a culture of informed decision-making and innovation through hackathons and tailored training sessions.
