- Google’s latest version of Chrome features three new artificial intelligence (AI) updates, including an AI writing assistant and a tab organizer. Lagging behind Microsoft, which introduced AI into Edge last year, the search giant is gradually catching up.
- The company also fixed 17 security vulnerabilities.
This week, Google integrated three new generative AI features into its popular web browser, Chrome. Compared to Microsoft, Google is several months late in introducing AI-based generative features to its browser. Nevertheless, it still holds a leading position in the market, which makes the release – Chrome 121 – an exciting prospect.
The generative AI features are experimental at the moment, although Google appears to have big plans for Chrome, which has a 64.73% global market share and 49.8% of the US browser market share. United.
Unlike Edge, where Microsoft introduced ChatGPT and its powers early on, Google has taken its time to integrate what it sees as practical updates designed to make users’ lives a little easier.
If Google wants to help users, bringing efficient memory management through Chrome should be in the company’s cards. To the company’s credit, it launched Memory Saver mode in November 2023 and added a feature allowing users to see how much memory each tab consumed.
While these are certainly useful, the effectiveness of memory management is not necessarily up to the user. For now, the company hopes users will rethink abandoning Chrome in favor of its competitors.
Generative AI features in Chrome
Tab organizer
Have you ever delved down the rabbit hole that is the World Wide Web, flipping from page to page in search of answers to a search question, satisfying your curiosity, or quenching your thirst for entertainment? We all have.
Tab Organizer lets you do this by providing an AI-driven organizer accessible by right-clicking > Organize Similar Tabs. Once used, the feature will group similar tabs together and suggest names and emojis so users can quickly locate them.
Generate browser themes
Unlike Tab Organizer’s functional appeal, Chrome’s second AI feature is aesthetic. By leveraging text-to-image streaming, it allows users to create AI themes in Chrome, similar to AI wallpapers in Android 14 and Pixel 8 series.
Go to Customize Chrome > Change Theme > Build with AI, then choose a topic, mood, visual style, and color to create Chrome themes.
AI writing assistant
“Help Me Write” is designed to help users write text, but will be available in next month’s release. “We’ll be launching another experimental AI-powered feature to help you write more confidently on the web – whether you want to leave a well-written review for a restaurant, write a friendly RSVP for a party, or make a formal request on an apartment rental.”
To access it, right-click a text box or field and choose Help me write. The AI writer takes over once the user enters a few fords. Help me write works on any website on Chrome.
Google is expected to integrate the Gemini Wide Language Model (LLM) into Chrome in 2024.
