While artificial intelligence is becoming de rigeur for almost every technology sector and company, the technology is evolving so quickly that the world has not yet been able to cope with some of the potential fallout from this adoption, including economically as well as ethically.
The Global AI Ethics Institute (GAIEI) is a global think tank approaching ethics applied to AI through cultural lenses, seeking to raise awareness of the cultural dimensions of AI ethics, promote respect for cultural diversity in this field and open the debate has new perspectives.
Today, the Paris-based organization seeks to publish its first white paper and its launch a competition to include a research article on AI ethics.
GAIEI welcomes submissions from researchers, academics and public sector professionals who have contributed to this field. The subject of published articles should be AI ethics, preferably from a global perspective.
Some examples given might include how AI affects one or more countries in the Global South or Far East, or some aspects of AI governance and its consequences. Others could include the structuring governance of AI, the effect of AI on society as a whole and its ethical dimensions.
To be eligible, applications must have been published in 2024 in a reputable and accredited journal, newspaper, magazine or book. Submissions must be entirely original works of the author.
The submission deadline is December 20. In January, GAIEI will announce the winning article through its network of publicists and make it available on the GAIEI website. The winner will also receive a $1,000 cash prize.
“We are delighted to announce the inaugural Global AI Ethics Institute White Paper Prize. The first submission topic is “AI, ethics and the future of work” from a global perspective,” Kevin LaGrandeur, GAIEI research director, said in a statement.
“As leaders, businesses, societies and the world, we need to get this right. We look forward to sharing not only the winner, but also the key insights we gather from thought leaders in this critical area.
