Filipino engineers become top contenders in global AI hackathon
At the recent Trend Micro AI Hackathon Global held in Fukuoka, Japan, the Philippines stood out with a delegation of 163 representatives from Trend Micro Philippines. This was one of the largest contingents at the event, competing against participants from the United States, Australia, Brazil and 16 other countries. Displaying their prowess and expertise in the cybersecurity sector, Filipino engineers have left a significant mark in this global competition.
A notable success
Out of over 1,348 finalists, two teams representing the Philippines secured 4th and 5th places, demonstrating the country’s strength in the cybersecurity sector. These teams were comprised of engineers from various parts of the Philippines, including alumni from esteemed institutions such as PUP Manila, Saint Louis University, and Divine World College Legazpi.
Designed to do good
Their success during the AI Hackathon was a result of not only the support they received from Trend Micro Philippines, but also their own initiative and determination. Manuel Gatbunton, Head of Threat Research and Data Science and PH Lead of the AI Competition, praised the engineers for their ability to balance their job responsibilities and participation in the competition, exemplifying the company motto “Engineered To Do Good.”
