The Eclipse Foundation launched the Open Regulatory Compliance Working Group (ORC WG) to address evolving global regulations aimed at improving software quality and security.
The working group training follows Eclipse’s initial partnership with the Apache Software Foundation and other open source organizations in April. Announced on September 24, the initiative aims to help global participants across the open source community, including open source developers, businesses, industries and foundations, navigate and adhere to evolving regulatory frameworks. In particular, the working group, composed of members such as the Python Software Foundation and the Rust Foundation, plans to help businesses adapt to European Union regulatory requirements such as the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), as well as EU measures on AI and data sovereignty. data.
CRA is a legal framework that describes cybersecurity requirements for hardware and software products with digital elements placed on the EU market. It is expected that the working group will engage with regulators and governments to improve their understanding of the unique open source development model.
