Dynatrace yesterday announced new AI-driven data observability capabilities for its analytics and automation platform. With Dynatrace® Data Observability, teams can confidently leverage all of Dynatrace’s observability, security, and business event data to power the platform’s Davis® AI engine to help eliminate false positives and provide reliable business analytics and reliable automations.
Dynatrace Data Observability enables business analytics, data science, DevOps, SRE, security and other teams to ensure that all data in the Dynatrace® platform is of high quality. This complements the platform’s existing data cleansing and enrichment capabilities provided by Dynatrace OneAgent® to ensure high quality of data collected through other external sources, including open source standards, such as OpenTelemetry, and instruments custom applications, such as logs and Dynatrace APIs. It allows teams to track the freshness, volume, distribution, schema, lineage and availability of this data from external sources, reducing or eliminating the need for additional data cleansing tools.
High-quality data is essential for organizations who use it to inform their business and product strategies, optimize and automate processes, and drive continuous improvements. However, the scale and complexity of data from modern cloud ecosystems, combined with the increased use of open source solutions, open APIs, and other custom instruments, make achieving this goal difficult.
By adopting data observability techniques, organizations can improve the availability, reliability and quality of data throughout its lifecycle, from ingestion to analysis and automation.
Dynatrace Data Observability works with other core technologies in the Dynatrace® platform, including Davis Hypermodal AI combining predictive, causal, and generative AI capabilities, to provide data-driven teams with the following benefits:
-
Freshness: Helps ensure that data used for analytics and automation is up-to-date and timely and alerts to issues such as out-of-stocks, product price changes, and timestamp anomalies.
-
Volume: Monitors unexpected increases, decreases, or gaps in data (for example, the number of reported customers using a particular service), which may indicate undetected issues.
-
Distribution: Monitors for patterns, deviations, or outliers from the expected way of distributing data values in a data set, which can signal problems with data collection or processing.
-
Schema: Tracks data structure and alerts on unexpected changes, such as new or deleted fields, to avoid unexpected results like faulty reports and dashboards.
-
Lineage: Provides granular detail on the root causes of data origins and the downstream services it will impact, helping teams proactively identify and resolve data issues before they impact users or customers.
-
Availability: Leverages the observability capabilities of the Dynatrace platform infrastructure to observe server, network and storage usage by digital services, alerting on anomalies such as downtime and latency, to provide a constant flow of data from these sources for sound analysis and automation.
Dynatrace Data Observability is expected to be generally available to all Dynatrace SaaS customers within 90 days of this announcement.

Dynatrace, with its OneAgent technology, gives us a high level of confidence in the health of the data that powers our analytics and automation. The platform is also very flexible, allowing us to leverage custom data sources and open standards, such as OpenTelemetry. Dynatrace’s new data observability capabilities will help ensure that data from these custom sources is also high-quality fuel for our analytics and automation. This will save us from having to clean the data manually and reduce the need for additional data cleaning tools.
Bernd Greifeneder, CTO at Dynatrace
Data quality and reliability are essential for organizations to perform, innovate and comply with industry regulations. A valuable analytics solution should detect issues in the data that powers analysis and automation as early as possible. Dynatrace OneAgent has always helped ensure that the data it collects is of the highest quality. By adding data observability capabilities to our unified and open platform, we enable our customers to harness the power of data from more sources for more analysis and automation possibilities while preserving the health of their data, without any additional tools.
