Duolingo detailed its latest innovations during its annual online conference, Duocon 2024.
The Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-based company offers courses in more than 40 different languages on its freemium service. It offers both a free ad-supported service and an ad-free paid subscription service through its app.
Duolingo ended the second quarter with 34.1 million daily active users and 8 million paying subscribers.
New features revealed at the conference
During Duocon, the company introduced two new features: video calls and adventures.
AI-powered video calling allows Duolingo Max subscribers to engage in spontaneous, lifelike conversations with Lily, one of Duolingo’s animated characters. It is initially available to subscribers learning English, Spanish, and French.
The video call simulates natural dialogue and provides a personalized and interactive practice environment. The technology adapts to the user’s skill level.
Meanwhile, Duolingo Adventures immerses learners in a digital world for an exploration game-like experience. Adventures allows learners to apply their language skills to realistic scenarios, from checking their passport to ordering coffee, blending fun with functional learning, the company said.
On the stock market todayDuolingo shares fell 0.2% to close at 269.79.
Duolingo will release a mini-piano
“Our mission is to develop the best education in the world and make it accessible to everyone,” CEO Luis von Ahn said in a statement. press release. “We believe the best way to achieve this is to continually push the boundaries of technology.”
He added: “With new AI-powered features like video calls and adventures, we’re creating new, immersive ways to practice languages and build self-confidence.”
In addition, Duolingo announced a partnership with Loog, a leading manufacturer of portable instruments, to expand its music education offering.
Duolingo and Loog have created a compact and portable electric piano designed for the Duolingo Music course. The Duolingo x Loog piano will be available for pre-order for $249.
Plus, thanks to Duolingo recent partnership with Sony MusicLearners can jam along to popular songs from their favorite artists, such as Dove Cameron, Hozier, Meghan Trainor, Whitney Houston and more.
Duolingo Stock on Two IBD Lists
On September 9, Duolingo stock came out of a double bottom base with a point of purchase of 215.04, according to Increase in the ITN market graphics.
In intraday trading on Tuesday, Duolingo stock hit a record high of 273.22 for the regular session.
