However, Brandt highlights a broader concern: “Cybersecurity leaders cannot focus solely on the role of AI in security operations. It is imperative that the security function be involved in the development, integration and implementation of any AI solution within their enterprise, including existing products that will later receive AI capabilities.
Regulatory preparation
The findings emerge as organizations prepare for new AI regulations. The European Union’s AI law, which comes into force in August 2026, will implement requirements for AI systems used within the EU and prohibit certain applications of the technology.
To help organizations meet these requirements, ISACA recommends implementing audit trails and traceability measures. The organization advises companies to adapt existing cybersecurity and privacy programs and designate a chief AI officer to monitor the use of AI tools across the company.
ISACA’s research coincides with the publication of new guidance on authentication systems using AI. These systems can adapt to user behavior patterns to improve security, but face challenges including potential manipulation via adversarial attacks, in which malicious inputs are designed to fool AI systems.
The report highlights additional considerations for organizations implementing generative AI policies. This includes defining acceptable conditions of use and ensuring that compliance requirements are met. These directions come as companies grapple with integrating large language models and neural networks into their operations.
ISACA, with 180,000 members in 188 countries, is expanding its educational programs in response to the changing landscape. The organization launched new courses focused on machine learning for business support and neural networks. A new certification, the Certified Cybersecurity Operations Analyst, will be launched in the first quarter of 2025.
The study, sponsored by digital experience software provider Adobe, is part of ISACA’s annual State of Cybersecurity Survey report. The survey examines cybersecurity workforce trends and the threat landscape.
