Professor Joé T. Martineau of the Management Department of HEC Montréal is the new holder of the title Chair in Organizational Ethics and AI Governance.
The activities of this new Research Chair were officially launched on November 28. The creation of this Chair is part of HEC Montréal’s research and knowledge transfer priorities, in terms of sustainable transition and organizational ethics.
The Chair was made possible thanks to financial contributions from:
- IVADO-Quebec Research Fund (FRQ). IVADO is an interdisciplinary and cross-sector consortium for research, training and knowledge mobilization in artificial intelligence (AI);
- Confiance AI, an industrial consortium that brings together and supports companies in the development and deployment of trusted AI; And
- The HEC Montreal Foundation.
Mission and objectives
By developing both theoretical and practical knowledge, the Chair will make it possible to better support organizations in improving individual and collective capacities to meet the many ethical challenges they face. The Chair will mainly contribute to shedding light on the issues linked to the development and deployment of ethical and responsible AI.
The research program of the Chair in Organizational Ethics and AI Governance will be structured around three axes:
- Management of the ethical dimension of organizations
- Ethical and responsible AI governance
- Development of ethical competence among organizational actors
It is worth mentioning that this chair is one of the first to focus on organizational and corporate governance of AI, since until now the subject of AI governance has been analyzed mainly under the angle of public policies and technological regulation.
