What are the latest advances in generative AI? What is just noise?
In a new episode of the Cornell Keynotes podcast, eCornellKaran Girotra, Charles H. Dyson Family Professor of Management and professor of operations, technology and innovation at Cornell SC Johnson College of Business and Cornell Tech, explores what’s new in the world of AI, including updates on Apple Intelligence, Anthropic and advances in China.
It examines the latest technical advances in generative AI, such as new video capabilities, autonomous agents, robotics, and next-generation models.
“The gap between the main Chinese models and Open AI is not as big as one might think.
I tested Alibaba’s product called Qwen. It’s really good. It’s comparable to what everybody else has, except OpenAI. It’s comparable to the models from Meta and others, which were pretty, pretty impressive.
On the video side, OpenAI showed us SORA, but didn’t really let us play with it.
To my knowledge, the only company that makes video generation easily accessible to consumers is a Chinese company, Kuaishou… in their current product, (you can) generate videos, which I don’t think any American company is doing so far.
Keep an eye on what’s happening in China. It’s not covered as much in the American media, but I think it’s important for businesses and individuals to see what’s happening there.
