With more than 60% of business owners believing that AI will increase productivity, it is essential for them to evaluate the positive and negative impacts of using artificial intelligence in the workplace.
So says Darlington Akogo, global leader in artificial intelligence and founder and CEO of minoHealth AI Labs, an AI health technology company.
Highlighting the need to leverage technology to ensure growth, particularly to improve healthcare on the continent, he said while the growth in quality healthcare has been impressive, to do more, it will require overcoming significant obstacles such as infrastructure and leveraging technology.
Speaking on the second day of the 2024 Citi Business Festival on-air series, themed “The Evolution of AI,” Darlington Akogo said: “In 2017, we created the minoHealth AI app. The essential objective was to build equitable, high-quality health care that was accessible to all.
“Ideally, what does that look like? Let’s get the healthcare infrastructure you need. Let’s recruit the best specialists and clinicians and make them available to everyone, but this was not feasible because we lack clinicians.
“According to some research, we need 49 million more health workers if we are to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, which are six years away. This is definitely not a scalable approach.
“For us, that meant: Can we leverage technology to create solutions that at least fill the gaps that exist in healthcare? That’s why we’ve created AI solutions that can do multiple things, including interpret medical images.
The Citi Business Festival 2024 is hosted by 97.3 Citi FM and Citi TV in partnership with Absa Bank and is sponsored by MTN Business, AMG Fertilizer Nsano Ltd and GIRSAL.
