Discussions around artificial intelligence (AI) dominated the second day of the CIO100 Symposium and Awards. With the event theme “Driving Business Growth Through IT Leadership,” AI and the cloud have a role to play in this area.
In today’s IT world, many businesses are adopting AI or AI-based applications to improve service delivery. As everyone jumps into AI, the question of AI ethics arises, particularly regarding the amount of data needed to train these AI models. A panel at the event discussed how to find the right balance between AI and ethics.
Moderated by Dotsavvy Founder and CEO Moses Kemibaro, the panel looked at different aspects of AI development over the years. AI experts Michael Michie and Joan Mbesya, also founder of TechMindset, questioned whether AI should be viewed from an ethical perspective. Michie said AI is just a tool used to improve systems.
“Why we need AI ethical guidelines. How many organizations have business ethical guidelines, AI is just a tool and we need to use it. Let’s use ethical guidelines in business,” Michie remarked.
On the other hand, Naftal Nyabuto, CEO of mZawadi Holdings Ltd, spoke about his experience working on WakiliAI. Nyabuto said working with lawyers to make the app as fact-based as possible was a real challenge.
As artificial intelligence (AI) continues to evolve and integrate into various aspects of our daily lives, businesses, and industries, the ethical considerations surrounding its use become increasingly important. Finding the right balance between harnessing the power of AI and ensuring ethical practices is crucial for sustainable development and maintaining public trust.
The panel was also composed of Edwin Kemboi Sutter, Director, Digital Services, eCitizen Services Directorate who spoke about the government’s experience in using AI and leveraging AI models to better serve citizens. Amritpal Singh, Services Business Manager, HPE powered by Selectiumexplained how HPE is driving digital transformation through AI and sustainability. HPE delivers advanced enterprise computing, data and security solutions to the cloud.
The Symposium and the CIO 100 awards ceremony continue today with the gala dinner which will close the event in style.
