CrowdStrike CEO to Testify Before Congress
U.S. House of Representatives leaders call for CrowdStrike CEO George Kurtz to Testify Before Congress about the cybersecurity company’s role in triggering the widespread technology outage that grounded flights, knocked banks and hospital systems offline and impacted services worldwide.
Republicans who lead the House Homeland Security Committee said they want to get those answers quickly. They added that Americans deserve to know the details about what caused the disruption and what mitigation measures the company is taking. CrowdStrike said in a blog post that it is beginning to implement a new technique to speed up the resolution of the problem.
Kamala Harris on Artificial Intelligence and Big Tech
US Vice President Kamala Harris could potentially become the Democratic presidential nominee. Vice President Harris has been particularly outspoken about artificial intelligence (AI), warning of the “existential” threat of AI and saying it could “endanger the very existence of humanity.”
Harris has also played a leading role in combating the spread of pornography on social media, particularly “revenge porn,” a practice of posting explicit photos without the subject’s consent. Even before joining the Biden administration, as California attorney general, Harris sued eBay over the e-commerce company’s anticompetitive hiring practices related to no-poaching agreements with Intuit.
Cybersecurity startup rejects Google
Cybersecurity startup Wiz has exited a Google’s parent company reportedly reached a $23 billion deal to acquire it Alphabet has chosen to proceed with its IPO as originally planned.
Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport said in a note that while the company was pleased to accept the offers, it chose to continue building Wiz. The company is reportedly in advanced talks with Alphabet for the acquisition.
