Apple’s upcoming iOS 18 is expected to introduce a range of new AI features that won’t rely on cloud servers, according to a recent report from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The move demonstrates Apple’s commitment to improving user privacy and device performance by processing AI tasks directly on the device.
Gurman revealed in his Power On newsletter that iOS 18’s initial set of AI features will work entirely on the device, eliminating the need for cloud processing. This includes the large language model that powers new AI capabilities, reported macrumeurs.

Collaborative AI Partnerships
While Apple plans to keep some cloud-based AI features in collaboration with vendors like Google’s Gemini, the company aims to prioritize on-device processing for its AI features. Discussions have reportedly taken place with tech giants such as Google, OpenAI and China’s Baidu regarding possible generative AI partnerships.
Although iOS 18 does not include Apple’s ChatGPT-like chatbot, it remains unclear whether Gemini or other chatbots will be integrated directly into the operating system. Analysts suggest that Apple is actively investing in AI servers, hinting at the possibility of introducing more in-house cloud-based AI capabilities in the future.

The next iOS update is rumored to bring generative AI improvements to various Apple apps, including Spotlight Search, Siri, Safari, Shortcuts, Apple Music, Messages, Health, Numbers, Pages, and Keynote. Previous reports from Gurman suggest that this AI upgrade will allow Siri to handle more complex queries and improve autocomplete functionality in the Messages app.
Anticipate the reveal at WWDC
Apple enthusiasts can expect to learn more about iOS 18 and other software updates at the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), scheduled for June 10-14. iOS 18 could mark an important step toward a smarter, more private digital ecosystem.
