Apple has cut about 100 jobs in its digital services group, with the largest layoffs affecting the team that runs the Apple Books app and the Apple Bookstore, Bloomberg News reported. The layoffs include some engineering positions and other service teams such as the one that runs Apple News, the report said, citing people familiar with the matter.
However, the number of Apple employees in its services division was not known. Apple had about 161,000 full-time equivalent employees as of September 30, 2023, according to its latest annual report.
Apple has been reorganizing its teams as priorities shift, particularly around artificial intelligence. The company has already paused work on its upcoming high-end Vision headset and ended a project to design and develop its own smartwatch displays earlier this year, it has been reported.
The move comes as Apple has been struggling in China, its third-largest market, since last year, where sales fell 6.5% in the last quarter.
