In an important step towards harnessing emerging technologies for better governance and public service delivery, the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, with the help of the Wadhwani Foundation, organized a comprehensive workshop three days on artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML). , generative AI and data analysis. The training program focused on the application of these technologies in government processes aimed at improving service delivery.
On June 19, 2024, the workshop targeted senior officers, including secretaries and heads of department (HOD). The goal was to provide participants with advanced knowledge and practical ideas on how these transformative technologies can improve the efficiency and effectiveness of government operations. The Wadhwani Foundation team of experts has meticulously curated the content, focusing on real-world use cases relevant to the unique challenges and opportunities within the Andaman and Nicobar administration.
Focus on digital transformation:
Chief Secretary, Andaman and Nicobar Administration, Mr. Keshav Chandra, IAS, was present throughout the workshop. In his keynote address, Mr. Chandra highlighted the critical need to use emerging technologies to digitally transform government processes, thereby ensuring better delivery of public services.

Understanding AI and ML: Participants were introduced to the fundamental concepts of AI and ML, exploring their potential applications in public administration. The sessions showed how these technologies can automate routine tasks, improve decision-making processes and provide predictive insights for better resource management.
Generative AI Applications: The workshop showcased innovative uses of generative AI, demonstrating its capabilities to create efficient workflows, generate actionable insights from large data sets, and improve citizen engagement through personalized services .
Data analysis for impact measurement: Emphasis was placed on the role of data analysis in measuring the impact of various government programs. Participants explored methodologies for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data to evaluate program effectiveness and make data-driven policy decisions.
Real Use Cases: The Wadhwani Foundation team presented successful case studies from other government agencies, illustrating how emerging technologies have been used to improve service delivery. These examples provided valuable insights into the practical implementation of AI and data analytics in the public sector.
Commitment to technological progress
In his welcome address, IT/AR Secretary ML Kumar, IAS, highlighted the administration’s continuous efforts to create awareness among officers and operational teams about various technologies, thereby facilitating their use in day-to-day operations. He noted that the three-day workshop aims to cover around 250 officers and staff, providing them with exposure and practical guidance for the implementation of these technologies.
The workshop marks an important milestone in the Andaman and Nicobar administration’s journey towards digital transformation, equipping its leaders with the tools and knowledge to harness the power of AI, ML and analytics data to improve governance and public service delivery.
