HONG KONG, March 7, 2024 – Today, at Lenovo’s inaugural Tech World Hong Kong event, Lenovo brought together global technology leaders and innovators to showcase its deep commitment to driving AI transformation across all sectors in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay Area (GBA) and its vision of “AI for all”.
At the event, Lenovo shared some findings from Hong Kong enterprise CIOs(I) based on a global survey of international executives focused on the opportunities and challenges of artificial intelligence (AI). As global interest in AI reaches its peak, the survey results indicate how important AI has become to Hong Kong businesses.
95% of Hong Kong CIOs surveyed said their AI budget requests were met or exceeded, with 44% saying they have more than what is needed. Generative AI is the enabler, with 56% of respondents saying it provides the most business value today, compared to traditional or analytical AI (28%).
However, the survey also revealed several challenges that need to be addressed if Hong Kong is to take full advantage of AI. Only 55% of CIOs say they are adequately prepared to scale AI, with security, speed to market and availability of the right talent among the top obstacles. Nearly nine in ten Hong Kong CIOs believe human capital will be key to AI development.
While 88% of respondents agree that as technology becomes more powerful, organizations have a greater responsibility to inform and explain how they use it to external stakeholders, less than a quarter of CIOs believe their corporate policy for operational/ethical use of IT is AI. -ready. Meanwhile, at the corporate leadership level, only 35% of CIOs say their organization’s leaders have a strong understanding of AI and AI-related technologies.
