Professor SR Niranjana, Vice-Chairman, Karnataka State Council of Higher Education, highlighted that AI is just a technological tool that can help improve education, medicine and life human, but that it will not replace humans. So there was no need to panic.
He spoke after inaugurating the International Conference on Responsible artificial intelligence (ICRAI) 2024, held at Sri Veerendra Heggade Hall in Mangalore University campus Monday. Explaining how technology has changed the lives of humanity, he explained how India has developed over the years and changed its image in the eyes of the world.
He called on young researchers and students to improve their skills and think beyond knowledge to hone their skills and go global. He said KSHEC was liaising with the British Council for skill development programmes. He also mentioned that in the coming days, students will have the opportunity to travel to the UK for various programs and types of matchmaking courses.
Professor PL Dharma, Vice-Chancellor, Mangalore University, chaired the program and said that AI should be used responsibly for the benefit of humanity, demonstrating compassion and development of Company. He called on researchers and participants to emphasize ethical practices in the use of AI technology.
Prof. AM Khan, convener of ICRAI 2024, hosted the gathering and presented the conference and the MoU between Mangalore University and Cardiff Metropolitan University.
Srikanth Shenoy spoke on “Responsible AI: Navigating Ethical, Legal and Technological Boundaries” in the first session. Later, Professor Jiaxiang Zhang from Swansea University, UK, spoke on “Human Decision-Making in the Age of AI”, and Mike Edwards spoke on “Governance in AI: ensuring the responsible use of artificial intelligence technologies through standards” during the third session.
The first session was followed by paper presentations by researchers, during which six researchers presented their papers, and five researchers presented their research results and studies after the second session.
