AI Chatbots Show Growing Trend to Mirror Their Users
According to American researchers, artificial intelligence (AI) chatbots increasingly tend to reflect the points of view of their users. They found that these platforms adjust the information they provide based on the identity of the user making the request. “Because people read an AI-generated summary paragraph, they think they are getting unbiased, fact-based answers,” said Ziang Xiao of Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.
However, Ziang and colleagues dispute these assumptions, citing results from tests involving 272 participants. These individuals were tasked with using standard internet searches or AI assistance to write about hot topics in the United States, including healthcare and student loans.
