The rise of artificial intelligence has led to a the rapid and essential evolution of cybersecurity. This means a new cybersecurity strategy from the CISO, more comfortable with risk and seeking better alignment with senior management, According to recent research from Netskope Inc.
There is no doubt that investment in AI is growing rapidly. This is the first year that investment is actually being poured into projects, according to James Robinson (pictured), Netskope’s head of intelligence security.
“We’re seeing an expansion of the ecosystem that’s meeting that demand as all these projects start to get started within these organizations,” Robinson said. “In that environment, people are trying to figure out what they do with that data, how do they manage it, and how do they leverage it?”
Robinson spoke to CUBE Research Savannah Peterson to the Black Hat USA Eventduring an exclusive broadcast on theCUBE, SiliconANGLE Media’s live streaming studio. They discussed the challenges of cloud security and how AI is driving a new CISO cybersecurity strategy.
A New Cybersecurity Strategy for CISOs, Data Pipelines and AI
Moving forward, companies need to look to build data pipelines. That means looking to put data where it can actually be accessed, Robinson said.
“You have to be able to start putting in place all the automation that’s needed. I keep saying you have to know what you’re going to automate,” he said. “You also have to know what the AI is going to be used for. We’re just at the beginning.”
It is essential for organizations’ CISOs to know whether they are creators or adopters and users. According to Robinson, these two roles involve different environments and perspectives.
“You have to look at your program and understand that,” he said. “If you want to be a creator, you have to put in place different guardrails. You have to approach the problem differently than if you were a consumer of technology and you were using it for some other kind of benefit.”
