The development of artificial intelligence will give new impetus to the cultural industry, but the ethical question must be carefully addressed to ensure good integration between the two, experts said on Friday.
They made the remarks at the sub-forum on high-quality development of cultural commerce, one of eight sub-forums of the Forum on Strengthening China’s Cultural Strength 2024, held in Shenzhen, China. Guangdong.
Li Xiaomu, vice president of the Capital University of Economics and Commerce, stressed the importance of leveraging AI technology to promote cultural commerce.
“We must coordinate the relationship between the application of digital technologies and the creation of cultural content and should not overemphasize technology while ignoring cultural content,” he stressed.
“It is important to build a strong connection and achieve a good transformation between the two.”
China’s foreign cultural trade was worth more than $220 billion in 2022, a year-on-year growth of about 11%, according to the Ministry of Commerce. While imports and exports of cultural products reached $180.3 billion, those of cultural services reached $41.4 billion.
“One of the positive impacts of AI on culture is that it allows more young people to get involved in the industry,” said Wang Peng, presenter of the Asia Digital Art Exhibition.
“With AI and other digital technologies, we have noticed a growing interest in culture among young people. The spirit of innovation is also on the rise. Advanced technologies create more opportunities for young people to use their imagination to create,” Mr. Wang said.
Yi Di, vice president of Perfect World Holding Group, an entertainment industry group, warned of the ethical problem posed by the application of AI technology, saying it is a major challenge in the integration of AI into the cultural industry.
“Ethical issues often arise in many consumer applications of AI technology: How should we manage emotions and relationships between humans and machines? The more AI understands the human, the more “Human will fall into machine emotions, which could have negative consequences on everyone’s psychology, this represents a challenge for us,” Yi said.
