Jakarta (ANTARA) –
The Policy, Platform and People (3P) approach is necessary to ensure ethical and responsible application of artificial intelligence (AI), said Deputy Minister of Communication and Informatics Nezar Patria.
“The ‘policy’ emphasizes the importance of the elements of security, justice and inclusion,” he said, according to a press release issued by the ministry on Friday.
According to him, the term “platform” evokes the need to create an inclusive AI ecosystem through collaboration between platforms.
At the same time, the population aspect focuses on community empowerment through capacity development, he added.
He made the statement while delivering the opening speech at the Indonesia AI Conference 2024 in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Patria said that although Indonesia does not yet have specific regulations on the application of AI, for now, existing general and sectoral regulations can ensure the legal certainty of AI.
The regulations he referred to include Law Number 11 of 2008 concerning Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE Law) and its amended provisions, Law Number 27 of 2022 concerning Personal Data Protection (PDP Law) and the ministry’s circular letter on AI ethics.
The deputy minister argued that the use of AI in cloud computing can help accelerate research, increase creativity, improve customer service and increase the productivity and efficiency of data analysis.
“Cloud technology, AI, Internet of Things (IoT) and (data) analytics are essential and form the foundation of the digital strategy,” he said.
For example, he explained, AI has revolutionized diagnosis and expanded telemedicine capabilities in the healthcare sector, as well as improved fraud protection and risk management in the financial sector.
He said AI governance must be based on knowledge transfer so that Indonesia and other developing countries can actively participate in the global AI supply chain, not just as users.
